Minnesota Begins Their Season With a Winnable Road Game

Our Minnesota Vikings will begin the season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s a good matchup to start the season.

There are a number of connections between the two teams. Of course, the one that first comes to mind rests in Mike Zimmer since he was their defensive coordinator for several seasons. Otherwise, it’s notable that Justin Jefferson’s college QB – Joe Burrow – is the starting quarterback in Cincy. Fans should also remember that Riley Reiff is now one of the starting tackles for the Bengals.

There are no sure things in the NFL, but this is a game that favors Minnesota. Burrow is coming off a season-ending ACL tear, and he’ll likely have a difficult time against Zim’s revamped defense.

I’m really looking forward to the Ja’Marr Chase vs. Cameron Dantzler showdown. Dantzler went against him in a college a couple seasons ago and mostly contained the elite LSU receiver. It’ll be great to see what kind of progress Dantzler might make as a sophomore. The Week 1 game will give us a really great sense of whether he’s ready to take the next step. In fact, the Cincinnati Bengals have one of the best groups of receivers in the league, so the entire Minnesota Vikings secondary will need to be sharp. Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd are a handful.

That being said, their defense should struggle against Captain Kirk & Friends. Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Juston Jefferson should all find plenty of room on the field. If the offense can do their part, then Minnesota will be in a nice position to begin their season 1-0.

As we saw last year, starting slow can be damning in the end. It’s vitally important for Minnesota to take care of the teams that they should beat.
