Minnesota Vikings News Roundup: Draft Rumors Galore
It’s almost here. The NFL Draft is less than a week away, and the Vikings draft rumors abound. One might even be inclined to use the word galore. For this reason, our weekly News Roundup begins with these aforementioned rumors. We then turn to a brief discussion of remaining free agents and then finish things off with a discussion of TVG and the broader Vikings chatter.
Vikings Draft Rumors
Adam Shefter recently chatted with Paul Allen about the upcoming draft and our Vikings. He began by discussing Kwity Paye and Rashawn Slater before moving on to the draft depth at offensive tackle. He suggested that Slater will be gone by 14th overall, and he is probably right. There was also some discussion of Jaelan Phillips as a total wild card in the draft, a supremely talented player who brings up a ton of questions. There was even some discussion of quarterbacks who will be picked later, such as Davis Mills and Kellen Mond (who we’ve also discussed).
Otherwise, there has been a lot of mocking. Chad Reuter completed a full seven round mock for the Vikings. Alijah Vera-Tucker goes at 14 to the Vikings, a move that will surely delight many fans. In the third round, Reuter went with Kyle Trask before snagging a LB. You can find the rest of the picks at the above link. A few moments looking around the internet will surely lead to more mocks than you can handle.
Minnesota’s Remaining Free Agents
The Vikings still have roster holes, money to spend, and internal free agents. In all likelihood, Spielman will wait until after the draft to do something definitive about this situation.
Vikings Wire provided a list of the five remaining Vikings free agents. Brett Jones – the Viking from the True North – is the most intriguing one. That being said, Todd Davis is a nice depth option at linebacker, and Chris Jones may be brought back as corner depth. We’ve already expressed some skepticism about Sean Mannion returning, so we’ll see what the Vikings decide at QB.
Of course, the most exciting free agent options are all external to the Vikings. Mitchell Schwartz is the dream. Expect him to be signed promptly after the draft. It’s likely Minnesota has been in discussion with him (and other FA o-linemen) but they’re waiting to see how things work out in the draft.
TVG and The Purple Chatter
At The Vikings Gazette, there was a focus on the draft during this past week. Cole offered a couple more draft bust articles, this time focusing on Dimitrius Underwood and Christian Ponder. We had a trade up mock draft and some discussion of quarterbacks to remember in the draft. We offered a summary of our draft coverage yesterday. We even had a brief summary on Justin Jefferson‘s recent interview with GQ.
The Vikings coverage from around the web also stirred up draft rumors. There is some speculation on whether Minnesota and Baltimore could still trade during the draft and some names to keep in mind at kicker as the draft approaches. Over at The Skol Network, Nick discussed how the team can fix their offensive line.
Reader, you are appreciated. We here at TVG hope that you have an excellent weekend. Enjoy the draft chatter, and stay safe. Skol.
